Platinum BFC-The Best OF…

For the benefit of all you new comers, I have re-posted “Live 8 reunion”

Man, I love this…

Live8 Reunion: The Inside story.

By James Szabo

As has been reported elsewhere (mainly on Matty’s diary) the remaining members of the unforgettable “Cuntry Church Band” reformed for one night only in aid of Live8.

What has not been reported though is the story that lead to this truly historic moment…

“It all started about 5 or 6 years ago” said Sir Bob Geldof, organizer of the Live8 concert and big fan of the Cuntry church. “It was during that time that I got to know Father Rick, and I helped him out at his institute”. Father Rick of course was killed tragically demonstrating the evil of drugs to his cell mates at Long marsh correctional Centre for Criminals. After his death the work at the “Father Rick institute for young smack addicts” continued its work. Everything was quiet was until that historic day in 1999.

On the 7th of October 1999, a massive crowd of 13 people rallied outside the Institute to barrack for more songs from the Cuntry Church. “Yeah I was one of them, and so was Bono I believe” says Geldof. “I mean they were like the Beatles, but not as good or as cool or as talented, but the had something you know, it was like getting hit over the head with a tomato, no other fruit feels like a tomato, and so that’s what er..The Cuntry church did it made you feel weird...”

It was because of this rally that the remaining members met up for the first time for 15 years… “We were approached right after that by Bob yeah” says Martin Collins, former guitarist for the group. “We thought if that’s what the fans want, then we will do it, you know it’s for charity and stuff”. Of course not everything ran as smoothly as that, Former Drummer Chris Craib had landed the role as Slappy the Uncoordinated Pink Ranger in the feature film “Power Rangers 7: The quest for colon canyon” and he was reluctant to join the band. But thankfully everything was fine after Craib was replaced by Tom Cruise in the film. So with all the members together again they set about the task of choosing which song to sing at the concert...

“I really pushed for ‘AH RINDEN!’ because it was a fan favourite” says Matthew Szabo, “Marty wanted to do “Defender of the peace” as a tribute to Rick, but I couldn’t really be bothered to sing the rap in the middle of it, so we decided to do ‘ahh rinden’.”

After the performance, the band went on to perform and mingle with other celebrities. “Yeah it was fantastic” says Craib, “It was just like the old days, actually we got to honor one of Ricks dying wishes that night”. Yes indeed they did honor Rick’s wish because at exactly 12:04 am Paris Hilton was rushed to hospital with multiple head wounds. After trying to pass unnoticed in the crowd by wearing a black wig, the heir to the Hilton fortune was bashed over the head with a long, metal stick by three hooded attackers. When I asked the trio if it was them they just laughed and said “No”.

Of course the media had a field day with the Members. “Yeah they said that we kicked (Paul) McCartney out of his dressing room” says Marty, “Ha, a reporter came up to me and asked if I wanted to apologize, I just said ‘Let it be’!”.

Craib was also attacked by the media, “they said that I was responsible for The Beach boys sounding *hit house, yeah like they needed any help!”

But apart from that the trio had a fantastic ride. “It was a joy to be there, like I said to Elton, we didn’t appreciate the fame back then because we were self obsessed drug addicts! And then he went and stole that line and said it to the media!!!”

“It’s the Cuntry church band!” is out on Platinum CD next week.
